Local Volcano Favorites

Local Volcano Village Favorites

At the Crater's Edge is 5 minutes from the charming downtown main street of Volcano Village.

Unlike gateway towns to National Parks on the mainland, Volcano is tiny and undeveloped. It has two gas stations/general stores, a couple art galleries, and 4 restaurants. No Motel 6’s, no McDonalds, no bars, and no touristy gift shops.

Enjoy dinner at one of the local favorite restaurants, shop at the farmers’ market, and soak in the artistic community atmosphere.

Things to Do

Volcano Arts Center

A captivating destination where visitors can explore Hawaiian culture through fine art, sculpture, and photography by local artists. Housed in a historic 1877 building, the gallery offers a serene and inspiring setting that reflects the volcanic landscape’s raw beauty and creative energy.

Volcano Winery

Just minutes from Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park, Volcano Winery offers a one-of-a-kind tasting experience where volcanic soil meets tropical flavor. Sip award-winning wines crafted from local fruits like guava and jaboticaba, stroll through serene tea gardens, and enjoy warm hospitality in an intimate, off-the-beaten-path setting. It’s the southernmost winery in the U.S.—and a perfect pairing of nature, culture, and indulgence.

Our Favorite Local Restaurants

Thai Thai

Beloved Volcano Village Thai joint so nice they named it twice, offering noodles, curries,, and stir fries for lunch and dinner. Of note: The restaurant is closed Wed and Thurs, and the menu has zero vegetarian options. (Everything involves chicken stock!)

Lanikai Brewing Company

Serving local craft beers, hand-tossed pizza, and variety of catch-of-the-day Hawaiian delights, this brightly lit brewpub is a new Volcano favorite, with pizza-loving locals hailing Lanikai’s artisan pies as the Big Island’s best.

The Rim at Volcano House

Perfectly good food served in the extraordinary setting perched on Halemaʻumaʻu Crater at Volcanoes National Park, offering a breakfast buffet, lunch, and steak-and-seafood dinner. (Dinner reservations recommended.)

Kilauea Lodge and Restaurant

Imaginative Island-infused cuisine, with dinner service in a firelit dining room, as well as fire-free lunch and Sunday brunch. (Dinner reservations recommended.)
